Adam Muhlendorf founded Longleaf Strategies in 2013. Longleaf Strategies collaborates with its clients to shape public policy through bold, memorable messaging campaigns. Adam helps people and organizations get their ideas covered in the news, keep partners and affiliate groups informed about their work, and build their influence.

At Longleaf Strategies, Adam Muhlendorf has spearheaded communications initiatives that have led to significant wins for Alabama students. From 2013 to 2020, Adam helped Alabama GRIT inform the debate over the state’s academic standards by uniting diverse stakeholders and accurately informing the public. As a result, Alabama GRIT has protected the state’s Common Core-aligned standards from multiple legislative attempts at repeal. For a decade, Longleaf Strategies also helped the Alabama School Readiness Alliance (ASRA) raise awareness about the importance of high-quality pre-k through a steady drumbeat of media coverage targeting lawmakers’ minds and hearts.

Adam’s clients have also included the National Institute for Early Education Research, Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama (PARCA), ACLU of Alabama, City of Montgomery, Alabama Arts Alliance, Alabama Partnership for Children, Alabama Possible, The Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Alabama Association of School Boards, and VOICES for Alabama’s Children.

Before Longleaf Strategies, Adam oversaw the development of numerous national media relations campaigns as Vice President of Rabinowitz/Dorf Communications in Washington, D.C. His clients—which included the Faithful Budget Campaign, the Public Religion Research Institute, and The Jewish Council for Public Affairs—were routinely featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, the Associated Press, and many other print, broadcast, and online outlets. Prior to joining Rabinowitz/Dorf, Adam served as press secretary for U.S. Rep. Robert E. (Bud) Cramer of Alabama. Adam has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Alabama.

Adam serves on the Board of Directors of the Montgomery City-County Public Library System and was previously chair of the Alabama Association of Nonprofits board. He is a member of the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce and the Business Council of Alabama. Adam was also a member of the Alabama Leadership Initiative Class of 2013 and Leadership Montgomery’s Torchbearers Class VII.
